Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar to Parsi Zoroastrian parents, who later moved to the U.K. Freddie was a singer, songwriter, record producer and lead vocalist of the world-famous rock band Queen. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. His best-known songs included “Bohemian Rhapsody,” ”Killer Queen,” “Somebody to Love,” “We Are the Champions,” “We Will Rock You,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “Another One Bites the Dust.” Freddie was true to himself in every way possible and his talent and tenacity made him a star and an icon the world over.
